The Sahara in Morocco
Where to go, to find what you are looking for.
A visit to the Sahara desert is definitely an experience everyone should have at least once in their life time. It is a journey well worth the effort and you will have fond memories to last you forever. Imagine yourself on top a camel, trekking through the Sahara desert. There is nothing around you and all you can hear are the foot steps of the camel on the soft sand. The sky is vast and clear in the day and filled with millions of bright stars at night. It is a very peaceful experience and often is a sensation unknown by the most of the Western World.
We will have the chance to explore this magnificent desert landscape. If you're feeling energetic you can climb the dunes for sunrise or sunset to see the light and colour of the sands change. As the stars come out you can often hear the rhythmique beat of tribal drumming carried on the still night. Breathe and relax. This is mama Africa.
Adventures from Sahara may not be the most comfortable way of travelling for everyone, but it is a "must" travel for everyone that wants to experience the real taste of the desert, and of the real life people have in it.

Erg Chebbi
The dunes of Chebbi.
The 2 most famous villages in this region are Merzouga and Hassi Labiad. Merzouga is 30 miles (45 km) south east of Erfoud and has the highest and the most spectacular sand dunes in Morocco.
These golden dunes dramatically ends at 50m from the desert floor. They run in a line almost perfectly north/south to the village of Merzouga and beyond, and mark the western fringe of the Sahara Desert, dividing Morocco from Algeria.

Erg Chegaga
The dunes of Chegaga.
Near M'hamid is in the south of Morocco, over the Atlas Mountains and Zagora. Erg Chigaga is also part of the Sahara desert and more difficult to get to than Erg Chebbi. This ocean of pure Saharan sand dunes, provides the back drop to an authentic Arabian adventure.
This adventure involes a ride on a dromadaire, across the dunes to a secluded oasis. In fact, in Moroccan Sahara, there are only dromadaire, and no camels. Here you will find the authentic spicy Berbere tagine, prepared over an open fire by the nomad people that live in desert tents.
